My Shoe Nightmare!

Okay, so Rosie has just turned 15 months old and over the past month has really taken off with her walking. She can do over 40 steps before falling over and confidently toddles everywhere. Up until now she has never had shoes, not even those little pre-shoes, she has been in bare feet inside and out!

This weekend I want to get her feet measured and buy her first shoes. I have brought all her Sisters shoes form Start Rite and this is her modelling her first pair:

Poppy 14 months with 1st pair of shoes

I thought they were gorgeous, exactly how I envisioned little girls shoes to be (maybe because I had them growing up too)! I was planning on buying Rosie a similar pair this weekend.

Now I am confused as I have been told I should not buy this sort of shoe or I could damage my little ones bones...what?

Of course I didn't take just one persons view, I then looked it up on the internet and was horrified to find so much conflicting advice.

Here are just a few of the things I have read:

  •  soft shoes are the next best thing to being barefoot
  • Soft shoes do not offer the support your child's feet need
  • Your child's feet do not need support or padding
  • Wearing hard shoes can damage ligaments and possibly break bones
  • Hard shoes will only damage a child's feet if they are ill-fitting ie. if too narrow or too short and therefore putting  pressure on the growing bones of a their little feet

Aaaaaahhhhhh Could someone please tell me whether I should be putting her in soft or hard shoes?

This weather is not going to last and my little one needs to be able to walk outside. I have kept her barefoot for 15 months but the time has come, this little girl needs a pair of shoes.

The Gallery - Shoes

I love the Gallery and this weeks topic is no exception....shoes!! Well most girls love them don't they? Anyway, this week me and my shoes are not the focus of attention, no this week it is my girls and their shoes.

First there is Poppy who started pre-school today. In case you missed my previous posts, it is based within a School and she has to wear a School uniform...so grown up. Anyway these are her new School shoes:

She has always had Start Rite shoes but up until now they have always been pink. Having shiny new black shoes for School is a definite sigh of growing up. I couldn't resist the little flower design on these though...I had to get a little bit of girlishness in there.

This week Rosie has also started showing an interest in shoes. She is always trying to put on her Sister's so I let her try a pair of Crocs I picked up for her at CyberMummy. I thought she might have been walking over the Summer and that they would have been useful for the beach but no she didn't take off properly.  For the past 8 weeks she has been doing about 4 steps but when I put these on her she was so excited she did 10 steps.  Wow, they are like magic shoes. Now she doesn't want to take them off!!

So watch this space, I think now she has shoes she will be walking pretty soon. Then I can go and buy her some pretty new ones like the first pair her Sister had.

For more entries about shoes, please check out Sticky Fingers. I have a feeling there will be some pretty photos this week!!

Baby food, shoes and Italian's

Last night we stopped halfway at my parents and today travelled another three hours onto the Wedding destination.  The Wedding is tomorrow so we are sending two nights in a Hotel.  For this reason we decided to pick up a few baby supplies.  Up until now, Rosie has only had food freshly cooked and prepared by me. Now I am no Master Chef or anything but seeing as though I am at home all day I like to make it for her and feel as though I am giving her a good start in life.

So today Rosie had her first taste of Baby food.  We settled on Ella's Kitchen and Plum as these were the only ones Poppy would eat when we needed them once on holiday.  I was a bit worried I had made a mistake as they were textured rather than lumpy and she eats whole bits of penne pasta at home.  Anyway I need not have worried.  She wolfed them down.  Daddy even tried them and said they were surprisingly good (I am vegetarian so didn't). I am not going to give up cooking or anything but I felt I should mention it for those of you who are thinking about giving jars.

On route we had to do a quick mad dash into some shops.  Silly me had brought everything but the kitchen sink...oh and my shoes for the Wedding tomorrow!!  I quickly ran into Next and picked up some new shiny black patent ones.  It was the quickest shoe shopping I have ever done, but they are lovely!!  Whilst there I also quickly picked up a few things for the girls.

Tonight we all went out for Dinner to a gorgeous Italian restaurant.  The staff were fantastic, very welcoming and child friendly and the girls were so well behaved, it was lovely. Poppy was delighted as she thought it was just like the restaurant in her book (Lady and the Tramp) and she told the waiter the food was delicious!!

It has been a long couple of days what with all the travelling, the girls are fast asleep so I think it might just be a bath and early night for  me now.
