Giant Strawberries Made Rosie Smile!

Rosie has been teething recently and off her food again. Today however she could not get enough of these huge strawberries:

It was lovely to see her enjoying food again.

Teething Nightmare and Suspected Measles

Poor little Rosie has not been well at all over the Christmas break. She went away a week and a half ago with 6 teeth but whilst away cut approximately another 6-8. She has had all the usual symptoms....throbbing mouth, temperature, grumpy, tearful, broken sleep, runny nose, a bit of a cough etc..

Then yesterday she developed a rash. It started at my parents house but by the time we arrived home she was completely covered and it was very angry looking. She had been awake almost the whole journey and was very sensitive to the sunlight too. We were pretty worried about her but did the glass test and ruled out meningitis.

She had only been asleep for about half hour when we arrived home and was flat out so we decided to lie her in her cot and see how she was when she woke up. An hour later it had settled and had almost faded away.

She has been off her food for days so we weren't surprised when she ate nothing but she did manage a cup of milk before going to bed. It was another rough night but she slept in this morning so we let her.  However, when she woke up she was once again covered in the very nasty, angry looking rash. We contacted the Doctor immediately and managed to get an appointment for 12.00.

At this point we suspected Measles. For one reason and another she has not yet had her MMR and I panicked. I looked it up on the internet and were pretty convinced that was what it was.

However, by the time we saw the GP the rash had faded again. Although not as angry looking it was still there and he could tell that she was unwell but she looked much better than she had done a few hours previously. She was more alert, wanting to play and had even managed to drink another cup of milk.

The Doctor gave her a full check up and decided against Measles. He suggested it is probably viral but that we need to keep a close eye on her. If it worsens we obviously need to take her back.

Poor little thing. Its tough when your little ones are poorly and she seems to have had a real rough time of it lately. I hope she feels better soon but am so relived it is not measles after all. I will be also chasing them up about her new appointment for the MMR and getting her booked in ASAP.

What If We Didn't Have Teeth?

Teething - why does it have to hurt so much? My poor little baby went to bed and woke up 40 minutes later screaming in pain.  She only ever wakes up if teething or poorly and it will be in the evening not the middle of the night.

Earlier today I noticed the amount of drool had increased significantly so guessed a few might be on their way. She has had the required amount of medicine.  She has had Ashton & Parsons and she has had the gel. When I put the gel in her mouth I could feel her top gums were bulging,  I think perhaps two might be trying to force their way down inside her mouth.

What next?  I havebeen in three times. I have given her a little cuddle, I have laid her down and ssshhh patted her bottom and she has settled for a while.  I hope that's it but don't believe it will be.  Oh and she has been wearing one of those amber teething necklaces for a week too.

Children go through all this pain to get their teeth and then they just all go and fall out!!  They then get adult teeth which are bigger...does that mean more pain?  Then when you get older they just fall out again. Its just horrible! It got me thinking what if we didn't have teeth?

Obviously we would have difficulties eating, which would be a problem. So then I started thinking what we could do instead.

Maybe we could all be born with full size adult ones which never fall out.....but then breast feeding would not be an option so I guess that wouldn't work.

Maybe we could all just get given a set by the Dentist when you get to a certain age.  Of course they would never need treating and would not fall out.  That would be fantastic!

Oh dear, she is screaming again so that's the end of my hypothetical what if's and I'm off to check her.  All teething advice welcome

Make up and teething

What a day!

It started with me struggling to open my eyes as Poppy bound into the room and jumped on the bed saying "Morning Mummy, my clock is yellow" (she has a Gro clock).  I think my Husband was feeling the same as both of us were refusing to get up or even open our eyes.  Poppy  then proceeded to jump around the room, on the bed and generally tried to stir us both but we kept saying " two more minutes please!.  Next thing I knew she was using my small blusher brush and ever so gently brushing it all over my face.  It felt nice and she told me she was doing my make up for me...."that's nice" I heard myself say.  Two minutes later I thought... MAKE UP???????  I looked down and sure enough my little pot of blusher was opened and all over my white sheet...whoops!  I then looked at her hand and she had my foundation with the lid off, thank goodness I opened my eyes before she had not got around to using that one!

The reason I was so tired this morning was because I had been up a lot in the night with Rosie.  She has been showing all the signs of teething but they have not made an appearance yet!  Her cheeks keep burning, she's had terrible nappies, she screams when she tries to eat or put anything in her mouth and is drooling like you can't believe! Today she has just wanted sleep or to curl up and be cuddled...poor little thing.  I really hope they come through soon.

Fingers crossed we all get a good nights sleep tonight.  We are off to see my family tomorrow and I can't wait !
