The Gallery - The Kitchen

The kitchen in the house we live in right now is not my dream kitchen. In fact it is far from it.You see this is not our home. Due to my Husband's job we have to move every two years and the houses come with the job.

I absolutely hate the colour green and this kitchen has green worktops, green in some of the floor tiles and even a green oven! Yuck! In addition, the cupboards are far too dark for my liking.

However, this is also the room where the girls and I create magical moments. Apart from being the pace we prepare and eat our meals, it is also the place where we are let loose making all sorts of cakes, muffins and cookies:

And its the place where we can be found glueing, sticking, colouring and painting!

Whilst enjoying these activities I find Poppy opens up and tells me everything she has been doing at School and what all the other children are like.

Our kitchen is a place where we are busy. Sometimes you will find us concentrating very hard, whilst at other times we are relaxed, having fun and laughing. You will often find us talking and baking or in the girls case licking the wooden spoon!

What's your kitchen like? To check out more entries or to join in head over to Sticky Fingers.

Improved Sleep Makes Everyone Happier

Yeeehhhh we all had our first full night sleep in a week last night and feel much better for it today.

Poppy is absolutely fine now. A bit tired and coughs a bit when when she first goes to bed and wakes up, but apart from that is well.

Rosie is much better too. She has been left with a little cough and a runny nose but seems okay. She is more interested in food again and wants to play too which are always good signs.

Its been a long week so crossing my fingers they don't catch anything else for a while.

Thanks for all the messages of support, they have been lovely.

The House Of Death!

I wanted to give a little update as I have not blogged for a few days and that is very unusual for me.

Its been a tough five days with the girls both poorly, Rosie with croup and Poppy with a nasty virus. Husband and I have not been feeling great either, a mixture of living with the germs and broken sleep (we are so not good without our sleep). All in all, not a great weekend :-(

However, we are hoping we are turning a corner. Rosie has taken her last dose of steroids today. Although still not feeling great, her cough has turned from a barking seal into a more normal chesty sounding one. Fingers crossed it disappears altogether soon.

Poppy seemed better today so has gone off to School. I assume I would have heard if she had gone downhill again so she must be okay.

The nights have been the worst for us. Both girls have been coughing so much they have woken themselves up and then started crying. They both like their sleep so have struggled with the continuous waking. Poppy in particular gets in a bit of a state and Rosie has just needed to be upright a lot of the night. Her cot has been propped right up but after a coughing fit she just needs to be sat right up.  Exhausting for all of us.

Thanks for all the tips via twitter, I have used them all.

Its tough when your little ones are ill, I really hope mine get better soon.

Rosie Has Croup

Dear Rosie,

You are very poorly at the moment and I don't know what to do, I wish I could make you feel better.

Last night you went downhill very quickly around tea time. You were so tired, off your food & milk, hot and bothered with a nasty cough.  I put you to bed all dosed up but you did not have a good night.

You kept coughing in your sleep which woke you up and made you cry. You were tired and in a lot of pain. I was pretty scared as I had never heard a noise like your cough before. It sounded like a seal barking and your breathing sounded terrible too, a bit like a very old person out of breath. I gave you lots of cuddles, reassured you and kept you dosed up in the night.

Today you woke up just as bad, so I called the Doctor. We were seen very quickly and she was very nice. She could see that you were very poorly and in a lot of pain. She told us you have croup and prescribed steroids which are supposed to work quite quickly.

You have not been well all day and keep looking at me with tears in your big blue eyes. It looks like you are saying "make it all better Mummy, make it go away". I really wish I could sweetheart.

In the meantime I am giving you lots of cuddles and am hoping the medicine kicks in soon.

Lots of love

Mummy xxx

I'm A Celebrity Meme For Mums

This really is the week for meme's. I have been tagged into another one from New Mum Online and this one is called  I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here Blogger Fun. It was started by Kate on Thin Ice.

The rules are as follows

1) Answer the 10 questions and consider the mission.
2) Tag a blogger or two or more to do the same
3) Come back to me and tell me you have done the questions and answers.

So jumping straight in:

1. What one thing about being a parent makes you scream “Get me out of here!”

When I am not being listened too or ignored. I do not want to be one of those Mums or Wives that nags and shouts but sometimes when no one listens to me I would love to scream "Get me out of here". I wonder what sort of reaction that would get!

2. What skills, if any, do you have that would be useful in the jungle?

I am a bit of a tidy freak so would happily help keep the camp tidy. I am also friendly and approachable so would be a lovely person to chat to or confide in.

3. How are you likely to annoy people if your were stuck with them for 3 weeks?

I am a bit giggly and silly so I could easily annoy boring people.

4. What is the worst thing you have ever eaten?

My diet is pretty bland, I am a very fussy vegetarian and don't like anything to rich. I cant remember what the worst thing I have ever eaten is but smelly cheeses, anything buttery and sprouts are all at the top of list.

5. What luxury item would you take into the jungle with you?

It would have to be my slimpod as I would be lost without it. It would help me relax, fall sleep easily and unlike the others, not worry about food!

6. What is the most daring thing you have ever done?

I jumped into a pool and waterfall in the middle of the Brunei jungle. Looking back now it could have had anything in it including snakes!

7. Who would you miss most if you went into the jungle with a bunch of strangers?

My children and Husband, it would be hard to leave them behind

8. What celebrity alive or dead would you like to have with you in the jungle?

It would have to be someone who could make me laugh!

9. What would scare you about being in the jungle?

All the creepy crawlies, snakes, rats shall I go on? I couldn't do it myself

10. After leaving the jungle, you go to a luxury hotel. What would be the first thing you did on reaching your hotel?

I would have to give my family huge hugs and kisses and then jump into a hot shower!

11th mission should you choose to accept it is to tell us why the person who tagged you is a star.

New Mum Online has been pretty quiet for months but it appears she is back on track now.  I have been following her blog and journey as a new mum since I started blogging and met her at CybermMummy 2011, she is lovely and has a gorgeous little boy who is the same age as Rosie.

The Gallery - Something I Am Proud Of

I have thought and thought about what I could use for this weeks gallery topic but kept coming back to my family.

Husband and I tried for years to have children and thought that it might not ever happen. Now we have each other and our two beautiful little girls and I couldn't be happier or prouder.

My husband is a fantastic husband and Dad. I know he will always be there for all of us. He always makes me laugh. Whatever he decides to do or learn he does really well like his photography. He has taught himself and is brilliant. I love that he has taken some gorgeous family shots which I am proud of. These are just a few of the ones he has taken:

Poppy is my eldest, now at  3 she is turning out to be a gorgeous, clever little girl who cares about others. Everyday she appears to be leaning something new. Next month I will be the proudest Mummy ever watching her perform at her first ballet show and watching her in her first nativity play as a Sheppard:

At 16 months, Rosie is turning out to be a cheeky little monkey and a bit of a character. No longer a baby, she is my gorgeous little girl. She is currently doing really well with learning new words and talking. Everyday she makes me smile.

Every time I look at my family my heart swells with love and pride and I know I am a lucky lady. They are what I am proud of most!

The Websites I Could Not Live Without

I have been tagged by the lovely Hannah over at Mummy and The Beastie to participate in another great Meme. This one was started by Emma at Mummy Musings. It’s about the websites that we can’t live without.

Since Husband has been working away for the past few months, I have been a bit addicted to my laptop and could not live without it. Once the children are in bed I settle back and browse to my hearts content as well as blogging, tweeting and using other social media networks. How did people survive without all this in the past?

Sites I visit everyday at the moment are:

My blog
I do appear to be blogging most days at the moment. This is not intentional, I just cant help it. I have had a lot of reviews to catch up on, have had a lot to say and now I have been tagged into a number of memes. Like I said, Husband has been away so evenings have been boring by myself anyway! Now that he is back though, I imagine I will calm down.

Gmail/Yahoo mail
Since starting my blog I am inundated with emails offering fabulous review opportunities and notes telling me others I follow have posted on top of the usual emails I receive. I check my mail several times a day or else they would get swallowed up and missed.

Twitter
This has been my lifeline with Husband away. Its like having friends in the room with me. Sad but when you have two little girls in bed its not as if I can get out much. It feels good that I have met some of you already so its not quite as freaky as it sounds!

Ebay
I have only just started using ebay myself, Husband has had an account for years and has always done the bidding. I have actually managed to acquire some beautiful Coast dresses for ridiculous prices lately which I am impressed with. With Husbands job, a wife needs gorgeous dresses to wear to the parties and I now have several new ones.

Facebook
I have a personal account on my phone which I do check most days now. I then have an account linked to my blog too, so I try and check that every few days too. I must admit the personal one was neglected for a bit when I first started blogging becuase I would upload pictures straight to my blog rather than facebook. I'm starting to get the balance right now though.

All in all a complete social network addict. I do visit various other sites including favourite online shops but will save all that for another day!

My Cheeky Monkey

Poppy loves singing and dancing and is loving learning new ones at School. Here is her today singing her latest favourite song: Five Cheeky Monkeys:

The words in case they are not that clear are:

5 cheeky monkeys swinging in a tree
teasing Mr Crocodile "you cant catch me"
along came Mr Crocodile, sneaky as can be
and snap went the crocodile
"oh dear me"

and then repeat for 4 little crocodiles and so on!

Such a cheeky little monkey and a bit of a performer!

A Review Of The Great Pretenders Bumble Bee Costume

As my regular readers will know we love dressing up in this house. With two gorgeous little girls we have a variety of pretty tutus, fairy costumes, wings and wands. Now thank you to The Great Pretenders we also have a very cute bumble bee costume too as modelled by Poppy age 3:

Poppy has had great fun trialling this and loves pretending to be a bumble bee.

The Great Pretenders claim to offer high quality costumes that are manufactured using the best materials and workmanship, so do we agree with this? Well yes we do actually.

The dress itself is of  a very good quality. It is lined inside so very soft and silky against the skin, making it very comfortable to wear and not scratchy at all. The bodice of the dress is made of rouched satin whilst the bottom of the dress has several layers to it, making it quite full. The black stripes are made with a lovely satin ribbon. When I first saw it, I thought it looked quite small but it stretches well and fits perfectly. She loves it!

The wings have the elasticated straps that fit over the arms. Complete with gold glitter and black feathers, they are quite glamorous for wings!

The headband completes the outfit. It has black ribbon wrapped around the actual band then it feels like thick pipe cleaners on the end. Feather pom poms top it off complete with gold sparkles.  It is apparently very pretty and very comfortable and Poppy thinks it makes her look like a real bumble bee.

This costume not only looks good but has sparked great imaginative play. Since it has arrived Poppy has been running around the house pretending to fly and when she sits down she pretends it is on flowers. In fact it was quite hard to get photos because she would not stand or sit still long enough.

We give this costume a huge 10/10 and would recommend it to others.

If you want to get your hands on one then they are available at Bright Spark ToysThe dress is available for £21.98 and the wings and headband for £9.98

I think we now need to get some sort of dressing up rail as we are getting quite a collection and the next party we organise will have to be a costume one.

Dressing up is such fun!

5 Things My 3 Year Old Says That You Wont Catch Me Saying

I have been tagged into a meme by the lovely Mummy Mishaps where I have to state 5 things my little one says that I never will.

My little girl Poppy is three years old now and growing up way to fast. She is always coming out with things that make me laugh. These are some of the things that Poppy says on a regular basis that make me smile but you would never catch me saying:
  1. I'm not tired and don't want to go to bed yet
  2. Tickle me harder/ tickle me faster
  3. Hang me upside down please Daddy
  4. Spin me around and around
  5. I don't want my hair done today

She really is a cheeky monkey.

If you want to join in then all you have to do is:
  • Come up with 5 things that your child, children or even your Husband say's that you never do!
  • If your baby doesn't yet speak then you can make them up based on what you think they would say if they could speak.
  • Then tag others to do the same
  • If you haven't been tagged and you want to join in then please do.
  • Then please link up your post to The Crazy Kitchen linky here  so Helen  can laugh at them read them too. Don't forget to ask those you tag to do the same please.

Thinking Slimmer Really Has Changed my Life

I wanted to update you on my Thinking Slimmer journey and what a journey it has been.

I started back in June as a size 12/14. Although not obese I was definitely a lot heavier then I wanted to be and my body was a different shape to my pre pregnancy one. I wasn't happy with the way I looked! Using the chocoholic cure and drop a dress size slimpods, I did really well and lost inches, toned up and dropped down to a size 12 however, I didn't actually lose much weight.

Then Husband was off for 6 weeks over the summer. We went away and I accidentally left my ipod at home which is where it all went wrong. I stopped listening, ate junk food and 6 weeks later I had put on over a stone and was back in my size 14 clothes. Feeling huge and miserable. No longer feeling pretty in dresses I began living in my jeans.

I spoke to Sandra early in September and she recommended switching to the Drop Two Jean Sizes Slimpod, which I did and I have not looked back since. In fact in the first week I lost 8 pounds!

It does sound a bit of a cliche but now I can say that Thinking Slimmer has really changed my life.

I honestly do not feel the need to diet to any more and I am actually quite happy with the way I look right now. Okay so I could still do with still losing about a stone and toning up a bit but I feel pretty good and am not worrying or obsessing about it.

Nowadays I am even out of my jeans again. I have actually started to wear dresses with boots, a look I really wanted to wear back in September but felt far too fat to carry off:

Me, Nov 2011
With two young girls I was aware that I did not want my erratic and obsessive diet habits to be picked up by them. I myself suffered from anorexia when I was younger and have never been happy with my figure since. Although that was all a long time ago, I have continued to have issues with food and definitely don't want history repeating itself with my daughters. I therefore jumped at the chance of trialling slimpods and am so glad I did. There is no looking back for me now....I am never going to diet again!

Since September I have so far lost one jean/ dress size and about a stone in weight with no dieting, no restricting myself and no cravings at all.  I am confident with the changes I have noticed, that I will be able to drop another jean size soon.

So what changes have I noticed? Well first of all I am eating 3 balanced meals a day and not really snacking at all. If I do snack it will usually be on fruit. My portions are smaller now too and I don't always finish what's on my plate either. I definitely don't go back for more. All of these changes are making me feel healthier than I have in a long time.

Weird things I have noticed include:
  • I no longer look at a chocolate muffin and think yummy, In fact they tend to make me feel a bit sick, I am much more likely to opt for a skinny blueberry one now if I decide to indulge at all.
  • I am not drinking much alcohol. Not that I was a big drinker but I did usually have a bit of wine at the weekend. I have not brought a bottle for ages and cannot remember the last time I drank any.
  • I am buying things in my weekly shopping that I never would have before like Ryvita, Philadelphia light and yoghurt (not just the kids ones).
So how does it work? Well you literally download a slimpod or order a CD. I have mine on my ipod and literally listen to it before I go to sleep each night. To be honest I listen to the drop two Jean sizes, chocoholic cure and the relaxation bonus tracks each night so its about 30 mins but I  fall asleep so quickly (another bonus of slimpods) that I never get to the end. Apparently your ears never stop hearing and  it must be true because it is working. I have not done anything else!

I wanted to mention the Chocoholic cure in particular. This slimpod is really amazing and works so quickly. I was a complete chocoholic when I started this. When I wasn't eating it because of some silly diet, I was craving it daily and talking about it on twitter. After just 6 days of listening to it, I did not need or even fancy chocolate any more. It was amazing. In fact  these days I can take it or leave it now. I rarely eat it, never crave it and if I do have some, I can stop after just a nibble! That would have been unheard of before.

Basically I eat whatever I fancy and as much as I want, the only difference is I tend to fancy things that are good for me now and want smaller quantities! I am eating a healthy, balanced diet which is what we all know we should do and is the most sensible and safest way to lose weight.

The only thing I have not got back into yet and wish I would, is the exercise. In the Summer I was doing an hour a day but I have just not been able to get back into it. I know I should do and that I will feel even better if I do but I have lost the motivation. I am hoping that it is going to return though..

All in all I am loving the effects off my slimpods. This is a life changing experience and I want to say a huge thank you to Thinking Slimmer who have given me the opportunity to trial them. I am not going to forget to take them anywhere again, they really have changed my way of thinking around food and my life!

A Lovely Family Morning

As a family we love nothing more than being outdoors. Autumn, Winter, Spring or Summer it doesn't matter, we just dress accordingly and get out there and have fun.

Today while the chicken and potatoes were in the oven roasting nicely we all wrapped up and went out for a lovely walk.

We discovered lots of snails much to the amusement of little Poppy, she was fascinated with them:

A little baby one, complete with snail trail

Poppy was very proud to spot it

A slightly larger one

Poppy talking to one

"come on little snail, say hello"

Next we went to the park, it was pretty muddy but the girls had great fun and didn't seem too bothered:

Fun on the swings

Climbing high

Peekaboo

Having fun

Finally we had a good run around on the field chasing each other and looking for more creatures and fairys. We didn't spot either but had fun trying!

No fairies here!

Not found anything but having fun trying

"What are we looking for again?"

Nothing here
No creatures here, just leaves

We didn't find any fairies but we did spot some of these:

All in all a lovely morning. We then came back to get the vegetables on and then all warmed up with a delicious roast dinner.

I love Sundays, perfect family days.

Ive Been Cooking - Using World Foods Fusion of Flavours Chilli Coconut Marinade

Having recently been tweeting about meals I have been cooking for the family, I got tweeting with @fusiontasteteam who offered to send us something new to try. All excited I jumped at the chance. After all, although I do cook for my family, its pretty basic and far from exotic, so I could do with a bit of inspiration.

I was really excited to be sent a chilli coconut marinade to try. We love a bit of chilli in this house and I love anything with a hint of coconut so was keen to try it. However, with Husband away I decided to wait until he came back.

Well I have used it twice now and it is delicious, we would definitely buy again.

This sauce is both suitable for vegetarians and vegans too and being vegetarian myself I used it the first time round to make a delicious vegetarian stir fry.  I marinated Quorn chunks for 3o minutes and then stir fried it adding mushroom, onions, red & yellow peppers, carrots, peas and noodles. I also added a little more of the marinade to make a bit of a sauce.

The result was delicious and went down well with the whole family:

I am vegetarian but the family are not so I used the rest of it to marinate some chicken and make some delicious chicken wraps with. Unfortunately I forgot to take photos but they enjoyed it and didn't leave a scrap.

If you are looking for some inspiration yourself check out World Foods Fusion of Flavours yourself.

Karen x

Please note, although we were sent a jar of this marinade to try for free,  I was not asked to write this post. We just loved it so much we wanted to share!

Lush Lip Scrub And Lip Tints Will Make You Feel Yummy

Each Saturday I bring you a new Beauty, fitness or fashion product that I believe will help us Mummy's look and feel a bit more yummy. The last few weeks I have reviewed a few expensive products so this week I bring you something must cheaper but still gorgeous.

This weeks products are Lush Pow Wow Lip Scrub and the new Celebrate Lip Tint.

Pow Wow lip scrub is available for £4.75.

I must admit this product looks very green and wasn't that appealing to me. You might appreciate I am a bit of a girly girl who loves all things pink and sparkly.  I actually thought this scrub would taste horrible but was pleasantly surprised to find it tasted of sweets, I guess that is the magic of the popping candy. Okay I know you are not supposed to eat it but I personally cant help but lick my lips.

To use this product, you simply take a small amount and apply to your lips in a circular motion. Together the sugar and popping candy work together to gently scrub the lips while the organic jojoba oil soothes away any redness and soreness. I must admit, it is lovely. You can actually feel it working.....scrubbing away your dry skin, it leaves them all flake free and smooth.

If you want to try it, you need to be quick though as it is a festive limited edition lip scrub so wont be around long.

Once you have scrubbed away all the dryness you are ready to add a hint of colour whilst moisturising at the same time. There are three new ones to try but I trialled the Celebrate lip tint:

Available for £4.75, it comes in a tiny tin. It looks very nice and immediately appealed. A pretty pale pastel pink, topped off with popping candy. Very nice, smells good and very me!

Ingredients include almond, jojoba and camellia oils which all help soften and add shine to your now gorgeous looking lips. It tastes nice too... apparently of pink champagne! Very sweet and yummy..

Anyway, I have only been using these products this week but my lips are already feeling gorgeous: very smooth, moisturised and a pretty pink colour!

I would give these products a huge 9/10 and recommend to all.

I will be back next week with a new treat for you. Don't forget to leave me your tips below.

Funny Friday

After two weeks of looking at baby photos of my new Nephew and seeing him on Skpe I had a very funny conversation with Poppy I just had to share with you all.

Poppy -  "I've been talking to Daddy and I've told him I would like us to plant a seed in your tummy so we can have another baby"

Me - "oh okay" (dreading what was coming next), "do you know where we can get a seed from?"

Poppy - "umm no....Sainsburys?"

Hee hee, their innocence really does make me giggle. I had to try very hard to keep a straight face.

Helping Children In Need - School Disco and Harveys Big Shave!

Its that time of year again when Pudsey and the BBC team up to ask the great British Public to dig deep and help those much less fortunate than ourselves.

Tonight Poppy went off to her first School disco to help her School raise money for this very worthy cause. She had a great time dancing, playing party games and even enjoyed a few treats like jaffa cakes and cookies!

She told me she wanted to wear stripes so picked her dress herself. Tomorrow the children are allowed to wear stripes and spots and pay for the privilege of wearing their own clothes to School. Hopefully all of this will add a nice chunk to the charity!

This year Harveys the Furniture Store are also doing their bit and are hoping to raise in excess of £1000. In order to do this, their hairiest employee Ben, has agreed to donate his extremely long hair by shaving his head.  Pretty impressive as his hair is much longer than even mine:

All they ask is that you help support Ben and of course Children in Need by making a small donation via Harveys Just Giving page http://www.justgiving.com/Ben-Gadsby or text HARV60 to 70070. Texts cost £5. If you would like to help then please do and then DM me with the donation link at @wouldliketobe to tell me you have done this.

If Harveys do reach their target which I am hoping they will, I will be sure to upload a picture! Feel free to bid on his hair too (if you are into that sort of thing)!

Don't forget every penny helps and even the smallest donation can make a big difference.

Thank you in advance.

Sneak Preview Of The Pink Lining Spring/ Summer 2012 Collection

All Mummy's deserve a Pink Lining bag to make them feel yummy! I myself am a total fan of Pink Lining and their very gorgeous bags. I have had my Yummy Mummy bag for a while now and am still as in love with it as I was when I wrote this.

Pink Lining are going to be announcing their new collection next week but I am very excited to be able to offer you a sneak preview here first.

These bags really are the best. They are very practical as well as stylish and come in a variety of styles and materials. I want to share with you today some of the new designs and fabrics they are introducing. They are going to be popular so you might want to pre order.

First, for all of you whom now have toddlers rather than babies, Pink Lining are going to introduce the new Mini Yummy Mummy:

Birds and Bows

Just because you no longer have a baby doesn't mean you are ready to go back to a tiny handbag yet! There is still far to much to carry around with you. This bag is perfect. Smaller than the others, it has a changing mat that fits in the back, enough room for nappies, snacks, toys and other essentials and very importantly a front zip pocket for Mummy things such as keys, phone and wallet. Fantastic!

The next one is the very gorgeous twins bag. This is soo gorgeous its making me want twins (Well almost)!

Dragon Fly

Designed to be extra spacious, it has four bottle pockets instead of two and extra nappy pockets as well.  It also has other clever space saving improvements like the changing matt fits in the back zip pocket to save room in the main section of the bag and there is a divider in the middle of the bag that separates the bag into two sections. Perfect for two! The front zip pocket is larger than usual too, so you really should be able to fit everything you need in this one.

Finally is the very lovely Poppins Bag:

Pink Butterflies

This is the same as the Dancing on Air bag from this Season. The only change is the front canvass pocket material is the new wipe clean fabric which all new bags are made of.

I am loving the new pink butterflies fabric too, it is so pretty and girly and very me!

So just when I thought I was still in love with my bag, Pink Lining introduce new fabrics and designs to make me think I need another.

If you yourself want to get your hands on a gorgeous bag for yourself or a friend then you might be interested to know that Pink Lining will be holding a huge Sample Sale! Yes you read that right a sample Sale where hundreds of bags will be on offer!

The sale will be taking place December 2nd and 3rd. It will be held at the Pink Lining Headquarters 13 Bramley Rd, The Phoenix Brewery, London, W10 6SP.  I so wish I lived  nearer!

Happy Shopping
